I actually don’t mind grocery shopping, but it is more enjoyable if I am alone or only have one of my two children with me. My girls are really good, but they are kids. They often ask for things while we are shopping. Having only one kid with me cuts the requests for items in half. As I shared this with someone recently, he said if his kids asked for something when shopping, he would refuse to buy it just on principle.
I am so thankful that my Heavenly Father does not treat me that way. If I ask for something, He does not automatically refuse just because I ask for it. Instead of denying us, Jesus gives us permission to ask:
Matthew 7:7-11 states, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”
In Mark 11: 22-24, “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. “I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
In Matthew 21:21-22, Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
Not only does that sound like permission to ask, but it sounds like God will give us what we ask for in prayer and with faith!
