Have you ever been there? You’re the one in charge, and you have no idea how you should handle the situation that has been presented to you? Wading through difficult or unknown territory is hard enough on your own, but leading others through it, too, can seem like a daunting task indeed.

For me it happened again just recently.

A terrible, nightmare of a tragedy had occurred, and I had to help a team navigate through it. Even though the organization I was working with was secular, the very first thing I did was rally the troops, friends that I knew would pray for me to have wisdom and discernment in the situation.

Just like everything else in life and leadership, we took one step at a time. At times, we played the waiting game, and other moments felt like a rush of steps. But we got to the best possible outcome by putting one foot in front of the other, relying on God’s grace to see us through.

Paul said it best when he penned, “Follow my example as I follow the example of Christ,” (1 Corinthians 11:1). As leaders, we don’t have to carry the burden of leadership alone – we can follow where Christ leads us and make sure that our steps and direction are sure.
