Write the Vision – God’s Plan for Moi

I don’t want to dream big dreams for my life and then ask God to bless them. I want to discover His dream and then follow Him well so I can walk it out. If you’ve been walking in relationship with God for very long, you’ve probably wondered about His will and purpose for your life. What is it? Am I following it? How will I know?
While sometimes seeming mysterious, God’s plan for each of us has been dreamed long ago. Psalm 139:13-16 declares that His mastermind dream for your life was written in His book while you were still being knit together in your mother’s womb. Wow; that can preach on several levels.
If you long to fulfill God’s dreams for your life, the simple steps are as follows:
- Make sure you’re in right relationship with God. Have you confessed all your sin to God and asked Him to cleanse you? 1 John 1:9 (NLT) says, “But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.”
- Pray about it. Ask Him about the plan, and then listen for His response. Isaiah 30:21 (NIV) says, “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’”
- Write down what He says.
Habakkuk was a prophet who needed to hear from God too. God told him to write down His answer, but to remember that it takes time for the whole thing to be fulfilled. His description in Habakkuk 2:2-3 was that it would be fulfilled in these three ways:
- Slowly: Our timetable is usually not the same as God’s.
- Steadily: The experiences God leads us through are almost always usable in some way for our future.
- Surely: It will come to pass; don’t get discouraged and give up the dream.
Proverbs 29:18 (NIV) says, “Where there is no vision the people perish; but He who keeps the law is blessed.” And the NLT version says it this way, “When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is happy.”
As you grow, His purpose will continue to build inside you. Remind yourself of His dream for you often, and then follow well.
