There was another knock at our door, and again I answered it reluctantly. (I wonder if Mary was reluctant to answer her door the day the wise men appeared with their gifts?)

It was almost Christmas week, when merriment and expectation should mingle with the aroma of great foods and family gatherings.  But that was not the case the Christmas my husband left us.  There was no Christmas cheer in our home, no money for gifts or even a tree.  My children were fighting over nothing and everything while I spent most of my time crying.

I fully understand, "do not fear, do not be dismayed", is easier said than done. But I also know it can be done when our focus moves off the money and on to the promise.

We are living in financially difficult times.  As a wife, mother, daughter, friend, or Christian how are we to adapt and respond to financial pressures and loss?  Since I only have 700 words to tell you, I will state it simply.  Our faith in God must override our fear of loss and the unknown.

Women often make a decision and then begin to mentally play with that decision. Was it really ‘our final answer’?

Decisions: “Is that your final answer?” By: Lois Breit

On the TV game show “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” you hear this line repeated throughout the program.  Why? Because once a contestant had made their decision on the answer they were ‘sticking with’, they were unable to change their mind after they answered yes to this question.

I look forward to eggnog appearing in the grocery store cooler, lights twinkling from windows and rooftops, nostalgic music filled with hope, and the smell of a real Christmas tree in the living room ... However, on the heels of all this excitement and hub-bub, I find myself...

Ok, I'll admit it; I'm a bit of an HGTV junky!

Ok, I'll admit it; I'm a bit of an HGTV junky!

This is an odd choice of programming for me since I'm not doing any renovations, buying a home, or even own a home.  However, I'm constantly amazed by the transformations that take place, fresh starts, and unseen potentials fulfilled on HGTV.

Depression does not make you a ‘bad’ Christian, God knows our humanness and offers hope. So as Christian women, what can we do to combat depression?

You’re up before dawn; the ‘clues’ for today’s race will be found in your day-timer, iphone, blackberry, or wall calendar; you expect “detours” throughout the day and pray they aren’t too difficult or time consuming; you run hard, you run fast, and you finish each day...

Ever feel you need a trip to Chili’s just to escape all your feelings of guilt? You know, they serve up the Guiltless menu there: the guiltless chicken, always a favorite; the guiltless Black Bean Burger, which sounds wrong on so many levels; or maybe the Cedar Plank...

As moms, it’s easy to lose who we are in the midst of tending to the needs of others. Stress, pressure, sacrifice, responsibility, and ultimately abandonment had stripped me of who I had once been; I was lost.

Who am I?         By: Lois Breit

I once spent a week at a statewide Kids Camp; it was a crazy and busy week but it was a lot of fun.  The speaker had a blind puppet who kept popping up in the middle of each skit and would call out, “Where am I, Wheeeere am I”?  Then he would disappear.
