Praying in “One Accord” with other Mom’s

The late Spring season brings new growth, celebrations, graduations and the anticipation of summer!  But a friend reminded me that many families are also “prepping” for major milestones like registering for Kindergarten, or High School, and college!  These “good-byes” and “hello’s” to new phases of life can cause a lot of anxiety for children and Mom’s!

I still remember the day that both of my boys walked down the long driveway for their country bus ride of 40 minute to get to grade school!  I could hardly wait for 2:45 when I could go and pick them up and hear all about their day!  But, how was I going to manage my anxious thoughts for those few hours that we would be apart?

Fortunately, before school even began for my boys I became familiar with Mom’s In Touch.  Mom’s in Touch encourages Mothers to pray weekly with other Mom’s in their area.  They have wonderfully laid out a plan for an hour of prayer time that is very profound.  It was such a powerful and peaceful part of my week all through the years of my children’s school and college!  I made life-long friends with these prayer warriors as we interceeded on behalf of our children and their schools.

Gathering together regularly with a group of women is SO important.  You can find a group at your church to pray with or follow a format like Mom’s in Touch. (One of the wonderful things about MIT is that groups are in everywhere and you can find if there is one in your area on their website.  Our family  moved 4 times when the boys were young and each time I found a core group of friends by locating or starting a MIT group!)  MIT encourages you to pray in “One Accord”, agreeing with each other in a like-heart of prayer that was conversational.  Here are some scriptures regarding praying in One Accord:

  • God promises that He will be present with you.
“For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.” Matthew 18:20 (NIV
  • Burdens shared become lighter.
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2 (NIV)
  • Sometimes the Holy Spirit will give the same thoughts to two or more moms in the group at the same time.  This gives great confirmation that what you have asked for may be in accordance with God’s plan.  “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us— whatever we ask— we know that we have what we asked of him.” I John 5:14-15 (NIV)

Each season of our lives often brings us to our knees in prayer for many different reasons.  Seeking God with other women at whatever stage of life you are in is a wonderful way to agree together in prayer and lighten each other’s load as you do so!  Beginning in this type prayer just takes finding one other person.  Don’t hesitate, reach out and invite someone to pray with you today!
