“Who are you wearing tonight?” It is a question that is often asked to those who are in the spotlight.
Our culture glamorizes those who get dressed up and “look” care-free as they glide across the red carpet, but that image is rarely reality. The fashion designer that made the garments can not clothe them with lasting peace and joy, but The “Designer” can!
Recently, I had an event to go to that I was feeling less than comfortable attending. I think as women we entertain thoughts in our minds that we do not fit in certain social circles. This is true even in Christian groups of women and girls of all ages – just look at the way Beth Moore’s book “So Long Insecurity” is flying off the shelves! Over 300,000 women attended her satellite conference on this very topic of insecurity.
I shared with a friend about my anxious thoughts and she reminded me of a verse in Isaiah 61:3b “…put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, that they might be called trees of righteousness, planted by the LORD, so he might be glorified.” She challenged me to really think about what an amazing garment would look like if I truly put on the “garment of praise” designed by God specifically for me so HE could be glorified in my life.
As the event came closer my thoughts about the “garment of praise” that my Designer would create for me flooded my mind. Imagine the uniqueness, the couture, the perfect fit! The day of the event came and I was experiencing joy! You see when you are wearing God’s perfectly designed garments for you they are a beautiful shield that lifts that spirit of heaviness and replaces it with His joy that is not dependent on circumstances or status. Romans 8:31 says, “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us who can be against us?”
At the event, my outside apparel was an inexpensive knockoff – but my inside worth was off the charts! An acquaintance of mine approached me that day and said, “There is something different about you today… you have a special glow about you. What’s going on?”
The Bible says in Mathew 5:16 to “Let your light shine before men so that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Sometimes just inviting Jesus to attend the party with us and clothe us with His presence is all it takes to have that “special glow” about you!
How about you? Are you ready to enter into the world of the MOST HIGH fashion? Invite our Designer to create a garment of praise for you… but be ready to answer some questions. People will want to know “who” you are wearing!
Excellent delivery, Pam. What an inspiration for all of us to defer to God so that we reflect his character in our countenance. Loved your resource, great read!
What a great article. As women, it is so easy for us to feel insecure about our looks or what we’re wearing. I have purposely stayed away from events because I didn’t think I had “the right outfit.” Next time, I’m going to wear The Designers outfit! Thanks for sharing, Pam!
What a great article. I think way too often as women, we become consumed by what we look like or what we are wearing. I know I have skipped going to events because I didn’t think I had the right outfit or my hair didn’t look just right. Next time, I will wear “The Designers” outfit and head to that event confidently. Thanks for sharing, Pam.
