Conventional wisdom tells us that we should know how to handle the problems in our lives better than anyone else. We’re told to follow our hearts, follow our dreams, and to do what feels good to us at the moment. However, the problem with that line of thinking is simply that it leaves out one important factor… or I should say, the only factor that really matters.

That one factor:

All that we really have to do is ask the One who knows how everything is supposed to go, what we are supposed to do, and how we are supposed to do it.

As we face problems in our day-to-day lives, how often do we just jump to a resolution that seems right at the time, only to find out that it was a path which took us the long way around the mountain? Much like the Israelites 40-year journey when they thought they could figure out how to get to the promised land on their own, we often find ourselves in similiar situations. Somehow we (with all of our infinite wisdom and insight) think have all of the answers too, because after all, it IS about OUR lives, isn’t it?

But…

What would happen if, when we find ourselves smack dab in the middle of the storm with the whirlwinds and floods of life hitting us at every angle, we stop, drop, and pray?

What would happen if instead of running to our cell phones to call our friends to pray for us, or to facebook to post the latest tragedy in our lives, or call a pastor at church to schedule an emergency counseling session… What if we simply take a breath and have a meeting… right where we’re at… with God Himself?

Oh, I know it sounds too simplistic, doesn’t it? Just go to Him, and He’ll answer all of our questions. After all, HE created us to be creatures that need interaction with others.

But in reality, God’s main desire was to create us to be in a deep and loving relationship with Him. So when we hit the eye of the storms in our lives, even with utter chaos encircling us, we can have peace and know that our heavenly Father is right there beside us. He’s just waiting for us to ask Him what to do, because He really does know it all, He sees it all, and He can change it all…

God says, “Stop fighting and know that I am God! I am the one who defeats the nations; I am the one who controls the world” (Psalm 46:10 Easy To Read Version found on Biblegateway.com).
