“Cinderella is proof that a pair of shoes can change your life!” (Anonymous)
I saw this quote posted on Pinterest the very day that my Bible reading talked about shoes…the shoes of peace.
“For Shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.” (Ephesians 6:15 [NLT])
Peace.
The first words that came to mind when I thought of “peace” were tranquility and rest. I pictured inactivity or calm. But here is what Webster’s Dictionary says:
Definition of peace:
1: a state of tranquility or quiet: as a : freedom from civil disturbance b : a state of security or order within a community provided for by law or custom peace> 2 : freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions 3 : harmony in personal relations 4 a : a state or period of mutual concord between governments b : a pact or agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity
After reading this definition and looking at the above verse, I realized that peace doesn’t come from inactivity, but rather from actively putting on the “shoes of peace.” By actively stepping forward with the shoes of peace, you:
- Remove any disturbance.
- Restore order.
- Usher in “freeing thoughts” by stomping out the negative ones in your mind.
- Restore harmony in relationships by resolving conflict, not ignoring it or wishing it away.
By receiving God’s gift of His son who came to bring us this peace, I can be daily at peace with God. However, I still need to dress myself daily with the shoes of peace to have the peace of God.
Do you feel like an enemy has moved into your mind or your land? (i.e.: your thoughts, your home, your family, your marriage, your friendships, your job?) Are you ready to take whatever steps are necessary to actively drive that enemy out?
- “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5)
- Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Today, to usher in the peace of God, you need to take up your authority as a daughter of the King. Put on the designer “shoes of peace” your King gave you! Step out in faith to restore relationships, resolve conflict, ask forgiveness, love others actively, or drive out the enemy of your soul in the authority of the blood of Christ!
Yes, Cinderella, a new pair of shoes can change your life. The “shoes of peace” will bring you Life.
And that is not a fairy tale.
