Dear vibrant, young Jill,
I am so excited for you! Life is just beginning. You have worked so hard this few years in school. Way to go! You are about to start a new adventure as you get married and start a new job. This is why I am writing today.
Life is good right now. You have a lot of time and energy, so work hard and play hard. I know you think life is so busy, but honestly it is just getting started. Use this time to enjoy your new husband and spend as much time as you can working. No, I’m not joking. Yes, I know that you’ve worked really hard the last four years in your studies and on yourself. Now is not the time to stop. The hard work ethic and money it will produce now will set you up for a solid future.
Probably even more important than the money you earn is how you spend it. With each purchase you make, you are deciding a bit about your future so make a budget! You have the opportunity to save and spend a lot of money right now. Learn to be wise and make solid decisions with your money. Oh, and that’s another thing; it’s not your money. You are actually a steward of GOD’s money so use it wisely. Make sure to keep surrendering it to him by tithing first. He has opened these doors for you, so honor what he teaches about money.
Some of the money decisions you get to make are so exciting! You’ll be able to get new furniture, a new car, and even your very own house some day! With these decisions, you are deciding the trajectory of your life. Please know these two special things: Pay cash for everything and never make a decision without hearing exactly what God wants you to do. This may mean waiting, but in that waiting you will gain wisdom. Although this may be a bit overwhelming right now, please know these two things will save you a lot of heartache in the future.
You are doing a great job! Keep searching for God’s best in your life. Trust yourself and trust the people God has put in your life to give you counsel. Remember that the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Money itself is a tool as long as you keep God’s perspective on it. He will guide you along this wonderful journey!
