I awoke in the early morning hours with a headache—the kind where the pain becomes meshed into your dreams. In fact, I’m writing old school so I don’t have to look into the bright screen of the computer!
As I came out of that dream state, I reached into the nightstand and grabbed a couple of aspirin. I lay back into my pillow and prayed that God would take away this headache, realizing that, rather than the aspirin, should have been my first response. It is what it is. And then just like a volcano spewing hot lava, I began to spew one prayer need after another.
I am so thankful that the God of all Creation knows my heart! Psalms 139:4 says; “Even before a word is on my tongue, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether.”
Maybe my heart just needed to process recent events. Like sitting on the sofa with a trusted friend, I could spill it out to my Jesus. No judgement or condemnation. No “should have,” “would have,” or “could have.” Just a moment of release with my best friend in the early morning hours.
As I write, the headache seems to be lifting. I sense the peace spoken of in Philippians 4:7—peace that passes all understanding. I think I will put away my pen and paper, turn on some worship music, and be still.
Dear Jesus, when life gets overwhelming and complicated, bring me back to you. Thank you for being the best listener and friend. Thank you for our early morning communion! I love you too!
