Sprinkle Love All Around. This was my response to a Facebook group question, “If you wrote a song about recent experiences in your life, what would the title be?”

I was thrilled when the immediate response that came out of my brain and flowed down through my fingertips was “Sprinkle Love All Around!”

Doesn’t it just feel wonderful to spread and share love and loving actions?

That particular week, in my life, was full of love sprinkled everywhere. I felt surrounded by love!

As I was volunteering at a meal and worship service for people less fortunate a few nights prior to that Facebook question, love was flowing directly from God right out of my mouth as I sang to the people worshiping. Love was also being given right back to me, tenfold, from the wonderful people with whom I spent that evening.

In order for you to understand what made that night so special, here are some examples of the love sprinkling that took place:

  • I saw and felt deep love for God in the 50-something man that was tearfully singing “Holy, Holy, Holy” right along with me as I lead worship. He later shared that he had not heard that song since his childhood.
  • I felt love flow between myself, God, and the couple that I passed communion to and blessed. They had been to the meal many times before, but I later learned they had never attended worship there before. I am humbled that I got to be a part of them both accepting and drinking in the goodness and love of Jesus Christ through sacrament!  That was heartwarming, to say the least.
  • I watched as two teen volunteers got down on the floor and played with three small children. They spread and shared so much joy through the attention that they were able to give those children!
  • One of the little boys that was in attendance made my heart swell when I gave him a sucker, and he immediately hugged my legs and said “I love you”!

Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Romans 12:9 (NLT)

The joy that came to my heart that blessed evening then overflowed onto the people around me the next day. I sprinkled extra love around at home, at work, at the grocery store, at church, and more.

Isn’t it amazing how love multiplies and spreads?

Love, by design, overflows and grows and grows. Oh, how God knew exactly what he was doing when he created love for us! When the feeling of being loved kindles in us, it blossoms into larger and larger portions of love and kindness. We are called to then pour out that excess of love onto everyone that we encounter!

Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8 (NLT)

Paulo Coelho once said, “When we love we always strive to become better than we are. When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.” In my mind, that quote fits perfectly for the night I described above. By volunteering that night, I was able to make those moments better for many other people. The surprise outcome was that my life was made vastly better too! The love felt that night and the joy sprinkled all throughout that room sank deeply into the hearts of everyone there.

Sweet sisters, show love. Share love. Spread love.

I pray that each one of you will remember, daily and repetitively, to sprinkle love all around! Share the blessings that you are given. Smile at everyone you see. Serve others.

Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. 1 Corinthians 13:7 (NLT)
