We have all heard the saying,
“Life is like an onion. You peel it off one layer at a time.” Carl Sandberg
We are all onions and we all have layers and some can be more potent than others. Some layers can be hard, while others are soft. Each season in our lives creates a density and potency about us. Are we strong in that season? Or are we going through a season of weakness?
Each one of us has a story and each one of us has had numerous types of seasons in our lives but one thing is true, God has called each and every one of us. We are All His! His kids! His Masterpiece.
We are alive to show the world who He is through us!
So often we cry out “God what am I created for?” And yes, most often we are referring to school, or a career but the thing that connects us all is the one who truly loves us! We are called to not take offense of the stench of other people layers but to love them through the layers of their life. We are called to love God and to love people.
We are called to show the world the compassion, grace, and truth of Jesus Christ. How each of us does that may look different. But going after it each day is what matters. God put a dream inside each and every one of us. Helping each other unravel this life to figure out that it is being family.
Being there, alongside, going after dreams, through all the ups and downs. The sweet seasons and the ones that are not so pleasant. Being there for the peeling back of the onion. No matter what the smell.
Life is hard and it is hard being you. I want you to know that I see and recognize that.
You are fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 149:14
I knew you before I formed you. Jeremiah 1:5
A friend is a friend at all times. Proverbs 17:17
Iron sharpens iron. Proverbs 27:17
A chosen people. 1 Peter 2:9
You made me; you created me. Psalm 119:73
Doing life is hard, doing it alone is even harder.
Who are the people in your life that can be there for you no matter the season? That won’t stab you if one of your layers reeks instead of being sweet? Do you have friends that will be there through thick and thin? And if not, does something need to change? Perspective change? Location?
Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal who those people might be in your life, and if you don’t believe you have these kinds of people, ask Him to bring them into your life.
God is so good and He wants good things for His kids. He created us to not only be in a relationship with Him but with others, and in times like we are living in right now it is so important to have people in your life. People that you can call, text or video chat. When we are forced into social distancing it is so important to find ways to connect with the people that are in your life. Because feeling alone or isolated can create layers of an onion that might have not been there before. We need to look up to the one who created us and we also need to look out to the ones that he created for us. Relationship is part of His nature and when the world is going through chaos, we need to find ways to create peace.
