It was just a little note. I prayed as I wrote, slipped it into the mail, and went on about my day. My unexpected note arrived in the midst of her rough day and, in that moment, was exactly what she need to hear. The Lord knew what she needed. My note, written days in advance, was a gift to us both: an encouragement to her and an opportunity for me to partner with Christ in serving another.

We are called to be hands and feet of Christ – to make an eternal difference in lives through our words, actions, and service. In the face of unbearable suffering, it is tempting to think but there is nothing my little life can do and return to busy lives, sure that someone else more qualified will take care of the need.

By doing that, we rob ourselves of the opportunity to partner with Christ, to watch how he turns the impossible into the possible, to witness how his plans truly are bigger than our wildest dreams. To see, firsthand, how BIG our God truly is.

“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Galatians 5:13-14 (NIV)
