Are you having one of those days? You know, the ones where you’ve just cleaned the kids’ room and moved onto the bathroom, only to have your 2-year-old empty the dresser drawers? The days where the kitchen that you swept is sprinkled with cookie crumbs again and now a water fight may be in the making?

One step ahead, two steps back. All. Day. Long. On top of that, raging hormones!

You’re exasperated. Tired. Weary. Today those precious blessings–your children–have tried your patience and bedtime is hours away.

It’s time for a break–but there is no such thing for the busy mom. You’ve heard of popcorn prayer, but even that would take too much energy. So you breathe . . .

Jesus.

Jesus. The One who calms the seas.

Maybe he can calm my home. My children. Me.

Philippians 4:4 says, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say Rejoice.”

Even now. Even as your little one clumsily puts his clothes back in the drawer.  Even as his 2-year old response, “My do it, mommy,” causes your heart to swell.

Thank you, God!

Philippians 4 continues: “Have no anxiety about anything but in everything by prayer and supplication WITH THANKSGIVING make your requests known to God.”

God knows the source of heaviness upon your heart.  Thank him for the process and release that anxiety into his hands. He is able.

“And the peace of God which passes all understanding will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

As you pick up the broom again, take a deep breath, and with a sigh, speak the name Jesus. Reach out to the One who calms the storms and let him settle your heart.

Father, thank you for the many blessings you have so graciously given to me. May your Words always be on my heart. May your name be on my lips. May you bring me peace. Calm my anxious heart. Let your peace settle over my home. In Jesus’ precious and holy name. Amen.
