How many of you are thankful for a praying mother and/or grandmother? If you have a praying parent in your lineage, you are a blessed person. Mothers and grandmothers influence their child’s life by living Godly lives and hitting the throne room of God with consistent prayers. Maybe you are the first person in your family to follow the Lord. That means these powerful prayers are starting with you! What a blessed heritage you are beginning.

You can read many examples in the Bible of mothers influencing their sons and daughters – some for evil, some for good. Timothy is a great example of a young man who was positively influenced by godly women. He learned faith from his mother and grandmother. Paul writes, “I’m filled with joy as I think of your strong faith that was passed down through your family line. It began with your grandmother Lois, who passed it on to your dear mother, Eunice. And it’s clear that you too are following in the footsteps of their godly example,” (1 Timothy 1:5, TPT).

My husband and I have prayed countless prayer for our daughters, and now sons and grandkids. There is no right way to pray or perfect words. It’s just moving boldly into the throne room and asking specifically for God to move (Hebrews 4:16). You may just cry out “Help!” or you can take a promise from the Bible and speak it out loud with the authority that you have as a son/daughter of the King.

I remember the very first verse I began to pray consistently when my girls were just preschool age. I had been reading about God promising to give Solomon whatever he wanted. Instead of asking for wealth, possessions, and honor, Solomon asked for wisdom. “Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of your?” (2 Chronicles 1:10 NIV). I remember thinking that the responsibility of raising my daughters held the same weight as Solomon leading the children of Israel. So this prayer for wisdom became mine. As I lifted up each daughter’s life to God in prayer, I also asked for wisdom to be a godly mom.

E.M. Bounds, a well-known writer on prayer, once said “God shapes the world by prayer. Prayers are deathless. They outlive the lives of those who uttered them.”

Mother’s Day will be here soon. Remember to thank your mom and grandmother! For tremendous power is released through the passionate, heartfelt prayer of a godly believer (James 5:16b, TPT). Even if your mother or grandmother has moved her residence to heaven, the power you are experiencing in your life right now is the fruit of her prayers.

Thanks, Mom, for praying!

Praying For Our Kids – Scriptures. Stories. Prayers. Answers.

I have written a small booklet on my four “go-to” prayers that my husband and I have consistently prayed for our family. It is a great book to use as a reference, encouragement, and a place to journal your own prayers and the God-answers you receive. Keep one next to your Bible as you pray for your family. These make great gifts for your daughter who may have a family of her own now. Or you may want to add one to a gift basket for a baby shower.
